First Cereal

On Saturday Brook had her first try at Cereal. She actually did really well, sucking the stuff off the spoon and drooling 75% of it back out. We had a good time.

A Little Paint

It's been fun doing a few little things to our home. We've changed some light fixtures and done some painting. On Saturday Mom and I painted the kitchen. It was yellow, which didn't look too good with the cupboards, so we painted it a light blue. I think it looks really nice. Trev added the pine under the window. We still have a few pieces of trim to put up, but it's coming together.

Roll Over

Yesterday I was laying on the floor with Brook, trying to help her roll over. I didn't notice that Sam was sitting behind me watching us. I kept saying "Roll over. Common baby, Rooollll over." I turned around and Sam dropped to the ground and Rolled over so fast that I though she was having a seizure. The dog was so proud of herself and looked at Brook as if to say, "It's really not that hard, just roll over already".

This is a video of the second time Brook rolled over by herself. Somehow being naked makes her more agile. (being on the edge of the blanket helped a bit too.)

Sleeping is a Skill

So, we have been having some trouble putting our little girl to sleep the last few weeks. The only way we could get her to drift off was to wrap her in a blanket and walk with her. And walk, and walk, and WALK. Finally she would fall asleep. Then this last week walking was not enough, she had to be held for at least 10-15 minutes until she was REALLY asleep. On Saturday night I walked with her for about 15 minutes and sat with her for another 15. I was really frustrated. I knew the day would come when she had to learn to fall asleep by herself, but I wasn't sure when that day was.

I was talking with a lady at church yesterday that had a 8 month old little girl. She had been having the same problem and finally on friday she decided her daughter was going to learn to go to sleep by herself. Her little girl screamed for 70 minutes! WOW. That is a determined kid.

Trev and I got home from church and I told him it was time for our child to learn a new skill. I wrapped her up, walked her until she was asleep and put her in her crib. She awoke and was MAD! She cried for about 20 minutes. That was a very long 20 minutes for me. The second time we did it she whined for about 10 and cried for 5 and went to sleep. Today I put her down for a nap at 4:00 this afternoon and she whined for 5 minutes and fell asleep all by herself! Victory!

There was no screaming until she couldn't breath or choaking on her own spit. It was wonderful. Now, hopefully she will retain this skill. And hopefully my back can recover from all the walking.

Our "Little" Girl

So, it turns out that our little girl isn't so little. We saw the public health nurse today for some of her shots. She's in 95th percentile for her head size and length, and her weight is off the chart. She's 14lbs, 7oz at 3.5 months. She has doubled her size in 3 months!

Part of me is really proud. Way to go Brook! You grow girl! Part of me is a little worried. Why is my baby a hulk? Oh well, just remember she's healthy. Really healthy. Really REALLY healthy.

The Fleming side gives her height, and My Mom always says, "Pauls' have good feed conversion".
So there you have it. The recipe for a big healthy baby.

Bath Time

These pictures were too cute to keep to myself. Brook loves her bath now. A few weeks ago if I gave her a bath she would scream when I took her out. I guess she was cold. I would bathe her in the sink and let the shower run to try to steam up the bathroom to keep her warm, but it didn't seem to make that much of a difference. Brook seems to have gotten over that now, which I am very thankful for. It makes hygiene a bit easier. She loves to be wrapped up in a big towel afterward. She just sits there and smiles. (No poop in the tub yet, but we have had some good gas which always gives us a good laugh.)
